When our team members are unsure of their skills, their abilities or even their knowledge, it’s important as leaders that we help them. My horse Zouk in the photo above was really not sure about his safety if he crossed this bridge. I had a couple of choices; I could have said “that’s ok we don’t need to cross it” and we could have gone around, which meant that he never addressed his fear, or I could have gotten impatient and tried to make him do it and started a battle of wills, in which there is no guarantee of a good result.
Instead what I did, was to first take a breath and think about whether he was ready and able to do this, or was I asking too much? click here to read more
